Frequently asked questions
Why did my file barely shrink?
Because most PDFs are mostly images. This tool compresses the document structure โ it packs objects into streams and removes metadata โ but it deliberately does not re-encode embedded images, so a scanned document or an image-heavy brochure has very little structural overhead left to remove. A text-and-vector PDF from a word processor often shrinks substantially; a scan barely moves.
How do I compress an image-heavy PDF then?
Reduce the images before they go in. Run them through the Image Compressor or Resize Image to KB first and rebuild the PDF, or export from the source application at a lower image resolution. Re-encoding images already inside a PDF means decoding and recompressing every one of them, which costs quality โ this tool takes the position that it should not do that to your file without asking.
Does compressing reduce the quality?
Not here. Nothing is rasterised, downsampled or re-encoded, so the text stays selectable, vectors stay sharp at any zoom, and images come out identical to how they went in. The saving comes entirely from a more efficient file structure.
What metadata gets removed?
The document information dictionary โ title, author, subject, keywords, producer and creation dates. That is worth knowing on its own: a PDF exported from a word processor frequently carries the author's name and the original filename.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed one. The whole document is held in memory while it is rewritten, so the practical limit is your device's memory rather than a server quota โ there is no upload, no queue and no daily cap.
